On November 19, secondary school teachers from nine different schools around Hong Kong participated in the first of a two-day workshop entitled “Fashioning STEM for good: Inclusive fashion design and smart textiles for social good”. Led by Dr. Jeanne Tan and her team of designers and engineers from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), teachers were introduced to core topics surrounding the learning and enhancing STEM teaching, including Inclusive Fashion Design, Smart Textiles and Polymeric Optical Fiber (POF) textiles.
Following this introduction, teachers were given hands-on experience in using sewing machines, bundling POF textiles and apply the smart textiles to provide hand working skills for the prototyping stage.
